Created in calmness to allow calmness, the mediTibem app accompanies meditation sessions. The name is a short version and visual anagram for „meditation time“.

A meditation timer app designed regarding the aspects of calm computing, not asking for more attention as you want to pay to it. In a friendly way, it guides you through your meditation session using genuine bell and wood clapping sounds from instruments used in live sessions. For not being disturbed during meditation you may put your phone on mute, meditibem will still sound the bells for you.

The session begins with a 10 seconds count down for preparation. According to Zazen tradition, the bell sounds three times to signal the beginning of a meditation period.

A meditation period may last 10, 15, 20, 25 or minutes. If more than one period is setup, the bell sounds two times to indicate the walking period, which lasts 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes, according to the length of meditation session. At 40 seconds towards the end of the walking period, a single clapping of the wood sticks reminds you to get back to your seat and prepare for sitting meditation.

Additionally, you can configure a preset with individual time durations with a meditation period of 1-240 minutes and a walking time of 1–20 minutes.

When the last meditation sround has finished, a single bell sound ends the session. The app will present a small thought on meditation practice and after a few seconds will be set back to the beginning.

The following user instructions apply for mediTibem version 1.3.

iPhone/iPad usage:

Timer:

  • Press the “mediTibem” title to start, pause or continue the session
  • Press and hold the “meditibem” title to stop the meditation session at any time
  • Touch the screen outside the timer face to activate context based help messages

Settings:

(When no session is running)

  • Press the time display to change meditation duration presets
    10, 15, 20, 25 or an individually configured duration. The individually set times are part of the preconfigured sets and appear after the 25 minutes preset.
  • Short press the gray circle segments to change number of meditation periods in session. Up to 3 periods can be set
  • To configure the individual duration times, goto the system wide settings app and enter the mediTibem menu. Here you can edit your individual meditation and walking times. When switching back to the mediTibem app, skip through the predefined times to select your individual setup.

A session is started by pressing the “mediTibem” title or the surrounding circle of the timer face. When running, a short tap will pause or re-start the session, a long press will stop the session.

Settings can be changed when no timer is running. You can tap the number display to change meditation duration. You also may change the number of meditation periods by tapping the gray circle segments, where each segment stands for one turn. A short walking phase is placed to separate meditation periods.

Individual duration times can be edited in the system wide settings app under the mediTibem menu. In the mediTibem app switch to the end of the session presets by tapping the timer display as described above.

AppleTV usage:

Timer:

On your appleTV remote:

  • Press (Play/Pause) button to start/pause/continue the session
  • Press the (Menu) button to stop the session, press again to skip meditation thought display or go back to main new
  • Press the touchpad twice to enter the mediTibem menu in the system wide settings app. here you can select a preset or edit individual time durations.

Settings:

Enter the system wide settings app from outside mediTibem as usual or press the touchpad twice when no session is running from inside the mediTibem app.

The number of meditation periods is shown by the gray circle segments, meditation duration by the time display in minutes and seconds.

A session is started by long pressing the text in the middle of the circle. When running, a short tap will pause or re-start the session, a long press will stop the session.

You also may change the number of meditation periods by tapping the gray circle segments, where each segment stands for one turn. A short walking phase is placed to separate meditation periods.

The app display remains active during sessions, so you can inform yourself about the current meditation phase. You may also switch to a different activity and come back later. mediTibem will continue from where you left.

Timer:

Use the Timer menu to start, stop, pause or continue a session or use mouse or touchpad gestures as described below:

  • Click the “mediTibem” title to start, pause or continue the session
  • Click and hold the “meditibem” title to stop the meditation session at any time
  • To get context based help, select “Show Hints” in the help menu or press shift-command-? to activate context information at any time during the session

Settings:

  • Press the time display to change meditation duration presets
    10, 15, 20, 25 or an individually configured duration. The individually set times are part of the preconfigured sets and appear after the 25 minutes preset.
  • Short press the gray circle segments to change number of meditation periods in session. Up to 3 periods can be set
